“Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard”-JUDAH HARRIS
For Judah Harris, senior shooting guard at Jefferson City High School, basketball isn’t just a sport—it’s a sanctuary. “It’s always a place where you can have fun, problem-free. It helps me clear my mind and just enjoy the moment.” His journey on the hardwood began in fourth grade, inspired by the example of his older siblings, Emanuel and Majesty, whose passion for sports sparked his own.
Judah’s drive to compete is evident in every dribble, pass, and shot. “I love the excitement of competing and getting better. The best part is pushing myself and playing alongside my teammates.” His family, especially his mom, Nakisha McBride, has been his support system. “My mom always pushes me to work hard and believe in myself, even when it’s tough.” His dad, Chris Harris, and his siblings also rally behind him, forming the foundation of his success both on and off the court.
Throughout his basketball career, Judah has faced his share of challenges. Confidence hasn’t always come easily, particularly during tough stretches like injuries or losses. “Staying confident and pushing through those moments has been my biggest challenge.” Music has been his go-to remedy for pre-game nerves, helping him find his focus.
One of Judah’s proudest moments came during the 2023-2024 season when the Jefferson City Jays made an unexpected run to the state game. “We worked hard and proved everyone wrong by exceeding expectations.” This achievement epitomizes the team-first mentality Judah prides himself on. “I stay active on both sides of the ball and make sure to communicate with my teammates,” highlighting his leadership role as a senior.
Judah’s approach to the game is simple but effective. Daily practice, post-practice shooting drills, and film study are the cornerstones of his preparation. He credits a favorite quote, “Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard,” as a constant reminder to stay disciplined. His goals for the season reflect his commitment to growth: improving his shooting, defense, and leadership skills while setting an example for younger players.
When asked about the legacy he hopes to leave at Jefferson City High, Judah is clear: “I want to be remembered as someone who always gave 100% effort and was a great teammate.” It’s a message that resonates
