Jace Wren, a senior at Southern Boone High School, is the kind of athlete who finds joy in every aspect of competition. As a three-sport athlete, Jace excels in playing wide receiver and cornerback on the football field, commanding the court as point guard in basketball, and stepping onto the baseball diamond as both an outfielder and pitcher. “One of the things I love most about sports is that they teach you life lessons. It’s not just about the games. Basketball, for example, is fast-paced and always has room for improvement, which I love. And the best part about playing on a team is that we all work together to achieve something bigger than ourselves.”
Jace’s passion for sports started early, and it runs deep through his family. “I started playing sports as soon as I could walk. My family was always involved in sports, and they’ve shaped the athlete I’ve become. Both of my sisters, Jayden and Jersee, were athletes, too. Jersee is playing basketball in college now, and she’s been a huge influence on me.”
But things haven’t always come easy for Jace. Growing up smaller than many of his teammates, he had to work harder to prove himself. “I was a late bloomer, and that forced me to push myself more. I had to find a way to stand out even when I wasn’t as big as everyone else. That challenge made me better because I had to develop a unique game.” His persistence paid off, and now, as a senior, Jace stands as a confident leader, both on and off the field. “I’ve learned how to stay calm under pressure. That’s one of the most important things in sports. In chaotic moments, whether it’s a game or practice, I try to bring a calm presence to my team.”
That poise came through during one of Jace’s most memorable moments: hitting a buzzer-beater during his junior year basketball season to lift his team over Harrisburg by one point. His junior season also saw him earn All-Conference and All-District honors, as well as break the school record for the most three-pointers made in a single game with a perfect shooting percentage.
His parents, Derek and Lisa, beam with pride when talking about their son. “Jace has always been self-motivated, setting personal goals and working hard to achieve them. But more than that, I’m proud of his character and humility. He’s always been kind, respectful, and quick to give credit to others. He has a peaceful demeanor, whether he’s playing sports, hunting, or just playing his guitar. Jace is a calming presence, and I hope he never loses that balance between hard work and knowing when to relax.”

Jace’s connection to his faith also plays a significant role in his life. “My parents have taught me to stay humble and honest. They’ve always encouraged me to push through mistakes and grow from them.” As he prepares for his final year of high school sports, Jace is focused on leaving behind a legacy of hard work, humility, and team success. “I want to show younger students that hard work pays off, and it’s important to always stay humble.” His future plans include playing basketball at the college level and studying business.
For Jace, the community of Southern Boone means everything. “My family and I have deep roots here, and the community has always been so supportive. I appreciate every person who comes out to watch our games. They’ve helped shape me into the athlete I am today.” And when he’s not on the field or court, you can find Jace in the woods hunting, playing his guitar, or reading his Bible. This quiet competitor knows that balance is key— not just in sports, but in life. As his mom puts it best, “Jace is truly a gift.”
