For Lighthouse Preparatory Academy senior Caroline Forker, life is a constant balancing act. As a standout athlete in both volleyball and basketball, an academic powerhouse with a perfect 4.0 GPA, and a writer with aspirations in psychology and journalism, she’s a shining example of a well-rounded student-athlete.
Yet, for Caroline, it’s not about perfection but progress and connection. Caroline’s athletic journey began at the age of six when she started gymnastics classes. “Gymnastics was tough on both my body and mind. I had to overcome so many mental blocks and minor injuries. But those experiences made me stronger and taught me how to handle fear.” After stepping away from gymnastics, Caroline transitioned into volleyball and basketball, finding a new kind of joy in team sports. She plays right-side hitter on the volleyball court and takes on both wing and post positions in basketball. “What I love most about playing sports is the community.
It’s not just about personal success. It’s about being surrounded by a supportive and talented group of girls. Celebrating victories and even tackling challenges together makes it all worthwhile.”
This past volleyball season was particularly memorable for Caroline, as it marked her final year playing the sport she loves at Lighthouse. “I cherished every single moment.” Her team’s second and third place finishes at State over the past two seasons stand out as highlights along with her improved hitting ability this past year. Caroline credits much of her growth to her volleyball coaches, Calvin and Lisa Stock. “They’ve fostered my love for the game in so many ways. Their practices are fun and engaging, but they also trust us to figure things out on our own. Coach Lisa’s advice about choosing gratitude over anxiety has truly changed my outlook, not just in sports but in life. Coach told us that you can’t focus on being anxious and being grateful at the same time; you have to pick one.”
Her parents, Jim and Rachel, have also been instrumental in shaping the person Caroline is today. “They are incredibly smart and balanced. They trust me, treat me as an individual, and support me while expecting me to give my best.” Caroline’s parents added, “Caroline has always been one to work very hard at everything she takes on, whether it’s schoolwork, sports, friendships or her faith. It is evident that she wants to succeed and is not afraid of working hard to accomplish the goals she sets. As her parents, we have been fortunate not to have to ‘push’ her to get things done, she has her own inner drive that guides her.”
As a leader on her team, Caroline is a loving teammate who genuinely cares about the people she plays with. She hopes that the underclassmen remember to, “focus on the things you can control, everything else will fall into place. Take the good out of all your experiences; and if you can’t take any good, take the lessons.”
Outside of sports, Caroline’s curiosity and creativity shine. She enjoys reading, writing, and studying history, Latin, and criminal justice. Her love of storytelling fuels her dreams of a career in journalism. “I’ve always been fascinated by how you can study the same events and still find new perspectives.” As she prepares for her next chapter, Caroline remains grounded by her values and inspired by role models like Simone Biles. “She’s been through unthinkable challenges but remains strong and joyful,” a sentiment that mirrors her own approach to life.
Whether she’s spiking a volleyball, sinking a basket, or diving into a history book, Caroline Forker’s life is a testament to balance, gratitude, and striving for growth. Lighthouse Preparatory Academy has been fortunate to witness her journey, and as her parents put it, “We’re excited to see where the Lord leads her, knowing that He has given her so many wonderful talents and attributes to share.”
