Captain on All Fronts Addison Jones

Jay Gill 2024-11-13 07:07:17

Addison Jones walks into her senior year at Capital City High School with a confident smile, but it’s the fire behind that smile that truly defines her. Whether she’s playing libero on the volleyball court, point guard on the basketball court, or commanding the midfield in soccer, Addison’s leadership and competitive drive set her apart. Balancing three high school sports, club volleyball, and AAU basketball, Addison has learned the delicate art of juggling passions, academics, and the demands of being a top-tier athlete.

“I love how competitive all three of my sports are Volleyball is my favorite because of how fast-paced the game is. I love the physicality of soccer and basketball, but it’s the bonds I’ve built with my teammates and coaches that mean the most.”

Addison’s passion for sports comes from her family’s deep-rooted love for competition. Her older siblings, Maddie and Grayson, were always there to challenge her. “Grayson and I spent countless hours in the garage playing 1-on-1 basketball. It usually ended in a fight, but it never stopped us. To this day, we still go to the fields to kick a soccer ball or play pickleball. Maddie and I were always outside peppering with a volleyball. My younger sibling, Ryan, is also a huge supporter.”

This competitive spirit was instilled by her parents, Sarah and Greg, who have been Addison’s biggest cheerleaders. They share, “At a very young age, Addison always wanted to go to her siblings' practices and games. She just wanted to be active with a ball in her hand. I remember in first grade, she competed in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick competition and placed second at the St. Louis Rams Dome. She's had a passion for sports ever since"

Her work ethic has paid off in spades. Addison has been named captain for all three of her teams— volleyball, basketball, and soccer—and earned multiple academic and athletic accolades. Highlights include achieving 1,000 digs in volleyball during her senior season, winning back-to-back conference championships in soccer, and being honored with Academic All-Conference and Academic All-State awards since her freshman year.

Reflecting on her achievements, Addison humbly credits her success to her coaches and teammates. “Coach Kelsey Hile has been a huge role model for me. She's taught me so many life lessons, like putting others before myself and letting God's light shine through me. I'm so thankful for her and all the coaches who've supported me, like Coach Kelsey Vogler and Coach Jaime Marshall in volleyball and Coach Tracy Braden in basketball." But Addison's leadership doesn't stop with her athletic abilities. As a co-leader of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of the National Honor Society, Addison works to set a positive example both in and out of sports. “It’s important to me to be coachable and always stay positive, no matter what’s happening on the court or field.”

Looking ahead, Addison has big plans. After graduating, she plans to attend Evangel University to study early childhood and elementary education while continuing her volleyball career. Her ultimate goal is to pursue graduate school to become a speech pathologist. “I’ve been blessed with a great support system that motivates me to keep pushing myself. I can’t wait to see where life takes me next.”

Her family couldn’t be prouder. “It’s been humbling to watch Addison grow into the leader she is today,” they share. “She sets a solid example for her teammates and friends by making good choices and surrounding herself with positive influences. She’s contributed so much to the culture of Capital City High School.”

As Addison wraps up her final season with the Lady Cavs, one thing is clear: her leadership and competitive spirit will leave a lasting impact on Capital City’s sports programs. For Addison, the bonds she’s formed, the lessons she’s learned, and the faith she carries with her will guide her through whatever challenges come next.
